The Guatemalan Guipil (Huipil) is a type of blouse worn by indigenous women and is unique in the world, made with cotton thread and woven by various techniques. Throughout Guatemala there are many weavers of the huipil who do it themselves with their looms. So also weavers have made these beautiful traditional costumes with their standing loom. The importance of valuing the work of these artists is because each piece is unique, given its complexity, each weaver provides a design at a time. The meaning of each one can tell us different stories, from expressions of nature to religious or political symbolism.
There will be an explanation of the history and the process of dyeing and making the threads. Then visit the Ixkik Maya Costume Museum, Vivo'z museum or and traditional atelier. The story of the Mayan costume, especially that of the Guatemalan Güipil, will be given. You can try a piece to take some souvenir photographs.
