Our guide will pick you up at the meeting point in Isla de Floresa at 12:00 pm, to go to Yaxha; and experience the sunset; Yaxha is a Mesoamerican archaeological site in the northeast of the Petén Basin region, and an ancient ceremonial center and city of the pre-Columbian Mayan civilization. Yaxha was the third largest city in the region and experienced its maximum power during the Early Classic period (c.250-600 AD). The city was located on a ridge that overlooked Lake Yaxha. The name of the city derives from the Maya for "blue-green water"; It is a remarkable survival of a classic name of the time in modern times. It is estimated that the Yaxha kingdom covered an area of 237 square kilometers (92 square miles) and had a maximum population of 42,000 in the Late Classic period of the Mesoamerican chronology. Return 7:30 PM to Flores, Petén.
