This tour takes you to visit:
The great open air market of Chichicastenango, the largest in Central America. It is celebrated only on Thursdays and Sundays. It is a very busy and noisy fair that occupies almost all the streets of the city. Here you can see the products that come from all over the country, as well as the local foods and the fruits and vegetables that are offered there. We return to Atitlán, Lodging.
Day 2: Breakfast at the Hotel (Included).
Now is the time to get acquainted with Lake Atitlan. Public boat will take us to Santiago Atitlán. Although Pana is the largest settlement on the lake, Santiago is the capital. It may be because the true native culture stays alive here, while in Pana its life is redirected. Santiago offers food, souvenirs, lessons, information about local customs and daily life. You will find many "cooperatives" that will offer several products, you will meet the locals always ready to show you something new. Santiago is the most popular lakeside settlement outside of Panajachel, and many Atitecos (as their people are known) cling to a traditional Tz'utujil Mayan lifestyle. The women weave and wear huipiles (tunics), the ceremonies and rituals of the tradition, the syncretic traditions and practices of Mayan Catholicism. Here there is also a great art and craft scene.
